I've seen a few Clarke's shoes ads in the last few years and in general they're pretty good. This one is no exception, it's a nice idea and it's nicely done. The huge kids running around and jumping over houses is quite seamlessly put together, it's elegant and clever, and a pleasure to watch. Even the way they bring up the end line as part of the landscape that these humungous kids operate in is dead clever. Like I said, most of their ads are pretty good, but I have to say that I do have a problem with their shoes.

Quite frankly, they're completely awful, I've never bought any and I don't know anyone who ever has, except for a certain sort of guy, normally never to be trusted, who wears their desert boots, and says that they are a `style perennial'.

Well, that's as may be, but I don't know any girls who would wear Clarke's shoes, and I certainly wouldn't. I'm sure that they're well made and extremely comfortable but they're not going to get you nearly as far as a seriously uncomfortable pair of Jimmy Choo's. They are as far as I am concerned, the absolute opposite of `fuck me' shoes, they are `don't even think of fucking me' shoes, and could I suppose, in that sense, be useful things to wear if you were lumbered with an amorous bozo on an evening out.

So, nice ads, shame about the shoes in my opinion, but I have to say that I'd reckon there's less disconnect with this ad, which is for their kids shoes. These are no doubt perfectly acceptable if you are under ten and not remotely interested in the opposite sex.
