This is a very traditional method of advertising, and it's perfectly well done, probably like the beer itself. It would have zoomed through the focus groups faster than a vindaloo through on OAP.

It is the analogy route, painters who have said no to brushes, cities that have said no to night, punks who have said no to pop culture (Surely some mistake here) and a beer that has said no to compromise at 4%. Becks Vier, which is German for four, is a slightly lower alcohol version of the standard Becks product which operates at 5 point something. I'm sure it is a perfectly good beer, the Germans, despite endless badgering from the EU try to stick to their Reinheitsgebot, or beer purity law. This means that beer can only be made from the right kind of ingredients, hops, barley and water, and explains why German lager beers are generally so delicious. This law is the oldest consumer protection law on record and was first enforced in the 1480's.

So perhaps the use of a traditional method of advertising is fitting for a product which is probably made in an equally traditional way. Why Becks feel the need to launch lower alcohol version of their fine beer is a slight puzzle, but they may be feeling the wind of political correctness and are following Stella who have introduced slightly less potent versions of their fabled `wife beater'. Though personally, I have never seen the original Becks as a full on session drink, and think they may be over reacting.
