I don't know whether they've done this deliberately but this commercial appears to show something that many of us would like to do, but don't have the opportunity. I personally would be very happy to throw my drink all over the ubiquitous and foul mouthed Gordon Ramsey, but would probably end up in court if I did. Gordon's on the other hand have no doubt paid the tiresome fellow an enormous sum of money to advertise their gin, and can do with him what they like. `He who pays the piper calls the tune' is how it goes.

If I had been the advertising agency I would have found the idea of punishing Gordon irresistible, and in some ways they've let him off lightly. Being showered with ice cubes, gin and tonic (in fact probably water) and slices of lime might be a bit of a shock but it's hardly distressing. It's not up there with water boarding, but it is a start. I can only hope that they are preparing a much more rigorous stunt for their next commercial.

As a suggestion, they could freeze the blighter in a huge ice cube with just his head poking out, before dropping him head first into a vast glass full of gin and tonic and giving him a vigorous stir with a thirty foot swizzle stick. I'm sure that's not the right way to make a gin and tonic, but it would make an excellent commercial and would give pleasure to millions.

Of course it is just possible that they don't realise what they've done and are merely presenting this as metaphor for the refreshing nature of a gin and tonic. All I can say is that I hope this is not the case.
